Spain offers two prime seasons for hunting Spanish ibex, each with unique advantages. The first—and perhaps most exciting—is the rutting season, which takes place from late October through November. During this time, all four types of Spanish ibex are in rut, meaning their activity increases significantly.

The males become more visible and less cautious as they search for females, making it easier to spot and approach trophy-quality animals. The second excellent period is spring, typically from March to May.

After the cold winter months, food becomes more abundant, drawing the ibex down to graze in open pastures where they are easier to locate.

Requirements for hunting Ibex in Spain

Each Spanish ibex is different; however, there are certain requirements that guided hunts for these four species share, which we will list below.

Hunting gear

Light clothing for walking and rain gear in case the clouds appear. Comfortable and mountain-ready footwear is essential. Also, trekking sticks can help on some trails that are less comfortable.

Since the ibex hunt is a mountain hunt, we recommend that all hunters come prepared with hunting clothing that will protect us from any unforeseen changes.

Although at Top Spanish Hunting we always provide weather forecasts a few days before your hunting in Spain, the weather in the mountains can change in a matter of minutes, so it’s better to be prepared.

Depending on the hunting trip you want to have, we recommend you come prepared for a more active hunt with lighter clothes or more insulated coats if you are looking for a less active hunt. We will advise you based on the hunting tour in Spain you’re considering.

Rifle caliber

As for the scope: Shots are usually taken between 100 and 250 meters, so a scope with 12 magnifications would be sufficient for this hunt. Way of hunting

Depending on your preferences, you can choose one hunting method or another, but typically, in ibex hunts we park the car and spend the day in the mountains in areas where, thanks to prior scouting work, we know the Spanish ibex are located.

Our success rate is 100%, and in most cases, we hunt the ibex in just one day. However, we recommend 2 or 3 days of hunting for each ibex hunt in case the weather conditions make things more challenging.

Southeastern ibex is probably the cheapest ibex due to the high population of this kind of ibex. Despite ronda ibex is the smallest one, the population of Ronda ibex is not as high as Sierra Nevada ibex, that is why prices are a bit higher.
