Why Monteria Spain Hunting is so special

If you’ve never taken part in a montería, it’s hard to truly understand why so many hunters are drawn to it. Monteria Spain hunting offers something truly unforgettable — it’s much more than hunting; it’s an adventure that begins the night before. The excitement builds over a shared dinner with fellow hunters, reminiscing about past hunts and swapping stories. The anticipation continues into the next morning as you gear up, making sure to pack all the essentials, always including a raincoat, just in case the weather turns, and an appetizer with a good bottle of wine to toast the day’s successes. And, of course, you never forget to grab a couple of extra boxes of ammunition, just in case luck is on your side, this is something usual if you hunt with Top Spanish Hunting.

What makes a monteria so thrilling is its unpredictability, no two monterias hunt spain are ever the same. You might draw a tough position in the lottery, only to end up breaking the hunt’s record. But above all, what truly matters is the camaraderie, the joy of hunting in good company.

We set off before sunrise, lucky enough to witness a breathtaking dawn through the car window while listening to a great song on the radio. Upon arrival, we exchanged greetings and firm handshakes with our fellow hunters before gathering for the traditional Spanish montería breakfast: a hearty plate of “migas” with a fried egg, crispy bacon, and a good glass of wine to start the day right.

The draw and the challenge in Driven Hunting

After breakfast, the draw for hunting positions took place, and the excitement in the air was palpable. This time, luck wasn’t on our side, we drew one of the most difficult spots in the hunt, a really good stand but where the lack of bushes will make shooting accuracy a bit difficult, as the animals would be running fast. But instead of being discouraged, we embraced the challenge, making us even more eager to enjoy the day.

Alfonso, the CEO of Top Spanish Hunting, went over the rules and safety guidelines to ensure a well-run hunt.

The hunt begins

We had barely set down our bags when we spotted the first group—three magnificent fallow deers accompanied by five females. At that moment, we knew we were in for an incredible hunt.

As we prepared our rifles, the hounds were released, quickly picking up the scent of a wild boar. We watched as they chased it straight toward our position. Despite the challenging setup, Mark executed a flawless shot, securing our first animal of the season.

Not long after, we spotted an enormous fallow deer in the distance. Mark decided to take the shot. The first attempt was too far back, only wounding the animal in a hind leg. With adrenaline pumping, he reloaded, followed my guidance, and found the target again. He steadied his aim and, with a perfectly placed second shot, took down the european fallow deer.

As we exchanged congratulations, we enjoyed our traditional appetizer—savoring fine Spanish wine, cheese, and iberian ham under the warm afternoon light.

Two more European Fallow Deers

After enjoying the ham, another two fallow deers crossed in our are, taking Mike an incredible fallow deer double shooting.

When the hounds returned, it was time to retrieve our animals. The wild boar was easy to find, lying just a few meters from our position. However, the first fallow had run 200 meters, making it impossible to see. Fortunately, Brezo, my loyal Bavarian bloodhound and hunting companion, picked up the trail and led us straight to it. We found the fallow, with the first shot in the hind leg and the final shot perfectly placed in the chest.

We marked the 4 animals with a personalized orange ribbon for identification, then joined the other hunters at the property garden to celebrate and exchange stories over drinks and appetizers.

The Monteria Spain Resault

It was an outstanding montería, with a total of 150 animals taken and some truly impressive trophies. But without a doubt, the highlight of the day was Mark’s first fallow, the biggest of the driven hunt.
