On Horseback in Search of Gredos Ibex

With the plan in place, Alfonso, owner and head guide at Top Spanish Hunting, set off with Jeff and the local gamekeepers towards the hunting grounds.

The Gredos Mountains offer a unique setting for ibex hunting, with rugged terrain and steep slopes where knowing the area makes all the difference. Reaching the right spots, reading the ground and working together as a team are all part of the process.

The morning was spent covering ground and carefully searching the mountain. Finding the right animal takes time, patience and a good understanding of the terrain. Every decision matters when you’re looking for an ibex that meets the hunter’s expectations.

The Moment Everything Came Together

After several hours of searching, Alfonso and the local gamekeepers finally spotted the right ibex for Jeff.

The opportunity was there. At 200 yards, Jeff took his shot — a perfect hit.

All those hours of searching had paid off. Jeff had taken his Gredos ibex, bringing the morning’s hunt to a successful close.

A successful hunt is about more than finding the right animal. It’s about knowing the terrain, adapting the approach and making the most of the opportunity when it comes.

A Hunt Planned Around the Hunter

No two hunters are the same, and neither are their expectations. Some come looking for a demanding mountain stalk, while others have a particular way of hunting in mind. Understanding those preferences is an essential part of planning the experience.

For Jeff, the priority was a horseback hunt in the Gredos Mountains. Alfonso and the local team organised the day around that goal, combining local knowledge with an approach that suited the experience Jeff wanted.

That’s how we approach every hunt at Top Spanish Hunting: with personal planning, attention to detail and a team that knows the terrain. The goal is to create an experience that fits the hunter, rather than asking every hunter to fit the same plan.

The Day Doesn't End When the Hunt Is Over

One of the advantages of finishing the hunt in the morning was that Jeff and his wife still had the whole afternoon ahead of them.

Back at their hotel, tucked away in the mountains, they had time to slow down and enjoy the surroundings. They relaxed at the spa before ending the day with an incredible dinner.

It’s one of the things that makes a hunting trip to Spain special. Beyond the hunt itself, there’s time to enjoy the landscape, discover Spanish cuisine and share the experience with the people who travel with you.

Whether it’s a quiet afternoon at the hotel, a memorable meal or exploring the local area, these moments become part of the trip, too.

More Than a Hunt. An Experience to Remember.

Jeff’s trip is a good example of what we aim to offer at Top Spanish Hunting: a well-organised hunt shaped around the hunter’s preferences, supported by local knowledge and complemented by the opportunity to enjoy everything Spain has to offer.

From the first arrangements to the final moments of the trip, we take care of the details so our hunters can focus on what matters: enjoying the hunt and making the most of their time in Spain.
