Arriving in Mouflon Country – Just one hour from Madrid

We arrived at the private estate, located just an hour from Madrid, early in the morning. Logan tested his bow to ensure everything was perfectly tuned. From the house itself, we began the stalk — and it didn’t take long to spot our first Iberian mouflons.

Several impressive rams appeared at less than 150 yards, but it was too far for a clean shot with the bow. We knew we needed to reset the strategy and get closer, hoping for a better opportunity.

Stalking Iberian Mouflons all day

Bowhunting mouflon is always a test of patience, and this day proved it once again. We spent the entire day carefully stalking groups of mouflons across open fields and oak-covered hills. It wasn’t until late afternoon that Logan had his first real chance.

The ram was broadside at 50 yards. Logan released the arrow confidently, but the sharp hearing of the mouflon gave it away — the animal jumped at the sound, and the shot missed.

A second and final opportunity before sunset

With just minutes of light remaining, we got lucky one more time. After a careful and silent approach through the brush, Logan got into position. This time, everything aligned perfectly. He released the arrow, and it struck the mouflon low in the body.

With only about 20 minutes of daylight left, we decided to wait until the following morning to track the animal, ensuring a responsible and ethical recovery.

Tracking the Mouflon at first light

At dawn, we returned to the field with my Bavarian hound, Brezo, to track the wounded mouflon. After more than an hour of intense searching through the thick terrain, Brezo finally located the ram — still alive but weak. Logan was able to make a final clean shot, bringing a perfect end to an unforgettable bowhunting adventure.

It was a hunt to remember: a successful mouflon bowhunt in one of the most beautiful areas of central Spain, surrounded by amazing nature and even better company.

Congratulations to Logan for his persistence and precision, and thank you for trusting us with your Spanish hunting experience.
